The Greek electric system successfully passed the Easter 2026 test, despite a low demand and high output coincidence from RES that created a surplus of up to 3-4 GW. IPTO used exports, RES teleregulation and pumping units, while storage systems were first used. The HEDNO achieved impressive progress, increasing remote-controlled stations from 1,638 (2.286 MW) in 2025 to 6,200 (5.4 GW) in 2026, reducing network interventions from 14 to 7 days.

Since 1 May 2026 a new accelerated procedure for evictions due to unpaid rents has been applied. Payment and return orders will now be issued by certified lawyers instead of judges, according to a Justice Ministry decision. Lawyers should have four years of experience and special training, while having 20 days to issue an order. The fee is set at EUR 400 for a payment order and EUR 300 for an order to repay a lease. At the same time, the full activation of the Renter Solvency Register is expected within 2026, which will assess the consequence of tenants through crossings with ADE.

Households and businesses are expected to face a double interest rate increase in 2026, as the European Central Bank is projected to go up to two 0.25% each – the first by June and the second by autumn. The Euroibor interbank rate is already close to 2.1%, mainly affecting loans at a floating rate. For a $100,000 mortgage, the monthly installment is expected to increase 24-30 euros. Banking executives warn that borrowers in early years of repayment are more exposed, while deposit returns increase much slower than borrowing rates.
