The Greek Army proceeds to upgrade the RM-70 rocket guns it acquired in 1994 from Germany. A total of 158 launchers were delivered, with 116 allocated to Evros and the Aegean islands. A 90m-euro upgrade programme, including co-production with EDS and Serbian EDEPro, was adopted to convert rockets to G-2000, doubling the range to 40 km. At the same time, on 6/4/2026 a contract was signed for 36 PULS launchers by Israeli Elbit, with 288 guided ACCULAR rockets. Elbit also offers RGK 122 kit with satellite navigation and 20 meters accuracy.
Analyticalally:
In 1994 with the reunification of the two Germans the Greek army became the recipient of large quantities of arms and weapons systems of the eastern bloc. Of the most valuable additions were multiple RM-70 rocket launchers. One hundred-fifty in total launchers surrendered that year to the Greek army of which 116 were promoted to units of the Evros and the islands of the eastern Aegean, increasing the power of artillery fire in these areas, while the rest were allocated for the provision of spare parts. Along with the launchers the Greek army received thousands of unguided 122mm rocket rockets.
The specific launchers derived from Russian BM-21 GRAD are one of the most widespread artillery systems since the Cold War that were designed for region saturation, with non-directed rockets based on mass volleys to compensate for low accuracy. In modern times, however, emphasis has shifted towards accuracy, reducing collateral losses and more efficient use of ammunition. This has led to the development of a new generation of directed 122 mm rockets but also an upgrade kit for the accuracy of the older generation of rockets.
A programme has already been approved by the House which will first upgrade
the launchers themselves and the existing 122 mm rockets
without the signing of a contract with a company. In one
At the same time, on 6/4/2026 the acquisition contract was signed 36 multiple
PULS launchers from Israeli Elbit. Modern these launchers beyond
other longer-range rockets have the ability to put up to 36

There are large numbers in the Greek arsenal.
Both RM-70 and PULS have the ability to put all GRAD-caliber 122-millimeter rockets and a full 36-40 rocket volley can cover an area of 30,000 sq.m. with 256 kg in the high explosive/braking charge set. The original rockets of Soviet construction of 9M22Y and JROF Czechoslovak construction received by the Greek army in large numbers along with the receipt of the systems have a range of around 20 km, while today on the market there are new generation of ammunition with greater range and improved accuracy.
Although in the 1990s the introduction of these systems gave great firepower to artillery units however the 20 km range of Soviet rockets was already marginal. Thirty years later this range is considered inadequate even for self-propelled guns when all modern artillery media emit fire at twice as many distances. The usefulness of these systems especially towards an opponent with superior numbers is very great, so the upgrade of a large number of existing rockets has already been approved.

The Israeli company ELBIT provide the international market with an upgrade kit for the accuracy of the offence, RGK 122 which can be adapted to all
existing 122 mm rockets. This kit uses
satellite navigation for path correction, operation on all weather
conditions, minimum modifications to the launcher and most importantly, CEP about 20 metres which allows the target to be affected with the first
Shoot.
The high accuracy of a CEP of 20 metres allows
the involvement of smaller, high-quality targets, business in urban areas
areas, while limiting collateral losses and supply
close-range fire support for friendly forces. The high capacity
correction offers greater flexibility in setting the launcher and in
target procedures before firing, for improved performance. In addition, the
first shot accuracy reduces the time period from the target acquisition
until fired, reducing the time of reaction and fire attack
anti-missile, is extremely effective in engaging targets that are
time sensitive with reduced collateral losses and as an alternative
for Near Air Support (CAS) missions. The loading mission
is carried out by a handy configuration device connected to MFCS. The
communication with RGK122 mounted on the rocket is done through
encrypted wireless data connection or data cable.
