According to United Kingdom's Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders data, Ford Fiesta remains at the top of the second-hand market for every year since coming second after Opel Corsa, back in 2009. In 2025, 303,090 used Fiesta changed owner in Britain — a percentage of approximately 3.9% of all second-hands sold in the country. And if someone believed that this was something transient, the data of the first quarter of 2026 come to disprove him: Fiesta was placed back on top of sales second-hand with 76,745 property changes only in the Q1 of 2026, leaving Opel Corsa behind with 62,201 and Volkswagen Golf with 56,236.
The interpretation of this performance is not difficult, but is multi-level. For over four decades, Fiesta has managed to build something that few small cars have achieved: a reputation of trust without special surprises. Low consumption, easy maintenance, character in driving that made it stand out even within a class full of capable competitors. This «mass of trust» which has built for decades is currently fueling an inexhaustible demand tank on the secondary market.
This image reflects a wider trend: small hatchbacks still form the backbone of the second-hand market, with superminis representing 32.2% of all transactions — that is about one in three used hand-changing is a small hatchback. The driver looking for a used driver is not looking for impression — looking for reliability, low traffic costs, something that will take him from home to work and back without constantly looking at him on the dashboard.
It is worth noting that sales of electric and hybrid secondhands increased significantly in 2025 — 30.9% compared to 2024, reaching 770,378 property changes. Of these, net electrics increased by 45.7%, with 274,815 sales. Nevertheless, no electric model managed to get to the top — And certainly not threaten Fiesta. This says something very specific about where the majority of second-hand buyers are located: they are still in a pocket and practical logic that electrics have not yet fully conquered in the secondary market.
In Greece the image has its own special dynamic — And it's even more intense. In 2025 the Greek market for imported second-hand cars is expected to have first surpassed 80,000 units in its history, with the 11 month already showing 75,889 registrations against 133,453 new cars. The capital brand in the imported second-hands emerged Peugeot with an 11.3% share, while Peugeot 208 was the most sought-after model with 4.0%, followed by Hyundai with 8.5% and i20.
At the same time, according to the Greek Statistical Authority, 25,722 cars were first released in March 2026. — new or imported second-hand — showing an 18.2% increase compared to March 2025, while for the first quarter of 2026 total entries reached 66,388 versus 62,399 in the corresponding period last year. This is notable growth in a market that remains deeply dependent on used ones.
And it's no accident. The root of the problem remains stable: the economic closeness of the majority of Greek consumers who are unable to invest in a new vehicle. The general increase in prices in new models, which reaches 40% over the last five years, has turned the acquisition of a new IX into an inaccessible dream for many. Result: while about 225,000 new classifications were recorded in 2025, the definitive deletions and withdrawals did not exceed 90,000, resulting in the fleet not being substantially renewed but growing and aging.
Within this landscape, small and cheap city cars with a known name and documented reputation have almost guaranteed demand. Models such as Ford Fiesta, but also Opel Corsa, Renault Clio, Toyota Yaris and Volkswagen Polo appear consistently in ads and keep their reseller value relatively well — Just because the demand doesn't cut.
