According to United Kingdom's Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders data, Ford Fiesta remains at the top of the second-hand market for every year since coming second after Opel Corsa, back in 2009. In 2025, 303,090 used Fiesta changed owner in Britain — a percentage of approximately 3.9% of all second-hands sold in the country. And if someone believed that this was something transient, the data of the first quarter of 2026 come to disprove him: Fiesta was placed back on top of sales second-hand with 76,745 property changes only in the Q1 of 2026, leaving Opel Corsa behind with 62,201 and Volkswagen Golf with 56,236.

The interpretation of this performance is not difficult, but is multi-level. For over four decades, Fiesta has managed to build something that few small cars have achieved: a reputation of trust without special surprises. Low consumption, easy maintenance, character in driving that made it stand out even within a class full of capable competitors. This «mass of trust» which has built for decades is currently fueling an inexhaustible demand tank on the secondary market.

This image reflects a wider trend: small hatchbacks still form the backbone of the second-hand market, with superminis representing 32.2% of all transactions — that is about one in three used hand-changing is a small hatchback. The driver looking for a used driver is not looking for impression — looking for reliability, low traffic costs, something that will take him from home to work and back without constantly looking at him on the dashboard.

In Greece the image has its own special dynamic — And it's even more intense. In 2025 it first surpassed 80,000 imports of second-hand passenger cars, confirming that this category is still a key pillar of the market. The winner of the imported second-hand was Peugeot, while Peugeot 208 was the most demanding model, confirming the preference of Greeks in small and economic city cars.

At the same time, according to the latest ElSTAT data, the total market continues to move upwards. In the first five months of 2026 they were first released 116,558 cars (new or imported used), versus 112.854 the corresponding period of 2025, increasing 3,2%. Only in May were released 26,897 cars, against 26.051 A year earlier.

And it's no accident. The root of the problem remains stable: the economic closeness of the majority of Greek consumers, who have difficulty investing in the purchase of a new car. The significant price increase in new models in recent years has turned the acquisition of a new IX into a particularly difficult case for many households. As a result, the market remains largely based on imported second-hand cars, while the passenger car fleet in Greece remains one of the oldest in the European Union, with an average age exceeding 17 years. Despite increasing classifications, the renewal of the fleet progresses slowly, as more vehicles are added each year than they withdraw.

Within this landscape, small and affordable city cars with a known name and proven reliability still have almost guaranteed demand. Models such as Ford Fiesta, but also Opel Corsa, Renault Clio, Toyota Yaris and Volkswagen Polo appear consistently in ads and maintain high reseller value, precisely because demand for them remains strong.

The lesson Fiesta teaches is simple: a car that has been building fame consistently for decades no longer needs to be produced to continue selling. Its value is not only judged in the exhibition, but in the years ahead, in service, in repairs that were not needed and in the hundreds of thousands of kilometers without unexpected. And in this category, Fiesta has created a trust fund that still pays off, even after the end of its production.
