In a difficult position are the olive producers in Halkidiki, as the significant reduction in this year's production is accompanied by large drop in green table olive price.
According to the producers, This year's crop is down to 50% compared to last year., while the product price records a drop of about 40%. As they say, last year the green table olive was sold in EUR 1,80 per kilogramThis year prices move around EUR 1,10 to EUR 1,20.
Oil producers argue that with these prices they find it difficult to cover even the cost of production. As they say, after the costs the remaining amount can be limited to 80-85 minutes per kilo, when the crop costs are calculated by them at around 1 to 1,10 euros, depending on the estate and production of trees.
At the same time, producers in Halkidiki complain that processing plants receive the product without having previously determined the purchase price. «They take the products and then unilaterally make prices», they report, while talking about outstanding amounts from last year.
As they claim, although certain processing units began to receive olives from 9 September, no price lists were announced, resulting in producers not knowing in advance at what price they will dispose of their product.
Oil producers call for immediate measures and compensation for loss of income, pointing out that the problem is not limited to Halkidiki but also concerns other areas of Northern Greece, where, according to them, the harvest has stopped.
