Freedom of Curtalis

September started dynamically for Euronext Athens and is expected to be completed even more impressively. Although at General Index level there was no significant development, with the market continuing to flirt with the consolidation of 2,700 units, at the level of... messages things were "sound". Large international houses said that Greece and Greek banks belong to their favorite investments, while they found that both European and international funds "love" Euronext Athens. And all this at the time that geopolitical policy came back high on the agenda of the dangers of international markets.

The month will close in a historical way. With Greece back to normality and developed markets. This is something investors have been preparing for months. and it remains to be seen how Greek assets will be treated in an environment of increased and unequal competition from the largest listed in Europe and the world. However, as the range of investors monitoring the developed market indicators is significantly greater, analysts point out that This will support a more diversified and stable long-term demand for Greek shares.

"September is accompanied by events of key importance for Euronext Athens, beyond current geopolitical developments, which are linked to both Greece's credit rating and its upgrade to the category of developed markets," notes Manos Hatzidakis, in charge of Beta Securities' analysis department. Also, at microeconomic level, the completion of the announcements of the results of the first half will provide a more representative picture of the fundamentals sizes of the listed and the prospects of this year's year, maintaining selective interest in companies with strong performance and visible perspective.

Increased foreign capital flows

Therefore, September months of increased investment interest and volatility, with potential catalysts in both directions. After all, the turnovers have now risen markedly and steadily, since even in August the interest was strong, with the 250m euros now being data daily.

With the beginning of autumn markets were invited to manage two adverse developments, notes Dimitris Tzanas of the Exchange Circle. Firstly, the likely budgetary crisis, as the governments of the US, Japan, France, England and so on are unable to limit their deficits, leading to higher bond yields. Secondly, the difficult energy setting, as, despite the announced toll agreement for crossing the Straits of Hormuz, oil and gas prices are not being regulated. With the indicators of international markets retreating and volatility increasing.

In Euronext Athens the setting was different in the last days of summer, with the General Index recording a new 17-year record, due to the important vision, of the forthcoming reclassification process of A.A. in developed markets according to the FTSE Russell and Stoxx 600 indicators, as well as MSCI’s rebalancing, as the addition of Motor Oil shaped the number of shares in the main Greek index in 10.

Developments lead to increased foreign capital flows in selected high capitalization indexed titles (banks, refineries, etc.), although the expected rebalancing of September 18 will be, according to Mr.Jana, what will shape the final picture in relation to passive fund placements.

In addition, as he noted, HSBC, Euronext Athens is the market where funds have the most overweight positions, both at international and European level. According to the latest data, compared to the five-year average, the markets of Greece and Japan are the areas with the largest overweight positions at international level, highlights HSBC, while Switzerland and Finland are the markets with the largest underweight positions. Historically, Austria and Greece are markets with the largest overweight in Europe, while Sweden and Denmark are markets with the largest underweight, according to HSBC data.

A significant asset of A.A., moreover, is the significant performance of the Greek economy. Moody’s It has recently been noted that in Main credit advantages of Greece is the strong history of implementing structural reforms, low debt service costs, limited borrowing needs, as well as large primary surpluses, which it expects to continue in the medium term. As he added, structural reforms have led to improvements in institutions and governance, stronger investments and a healthier banking sector. The strong absorption of EU funds. and private investment is expected to support growth in the coming years, as he estimates, partially offset challenges such as adverse demographic data.
