A collector with many Ferraris dared to pass the famous Rosso Fuoco over to the German supercar, causing tourists everywhere.

In the world of supercars, Porsche Carrera GT is considered one «holy chalice». With an atmospheric V10 engine of 5.7 liters, 603 horsepower and manual gearbox, lovers of the German firm fight for each one that appears for sale. And yet, the well-known collector Ferrari, Milton Verrett, decided to break the rules.

Choosing the Rosso Fuoco color from Maranello's palette—disgusting we encounter in models such as F12 Berlinetta—went on to a total repainting of his Carrera GT. It is not a simple membrane, but an extremely careful work that lasted three months, with the result that it looked like it came out of the factory.

A German collector's piece of Italian aura

The car in question bears the production number 728 of the only 1,270 built overall, while its roadometer records only 3.471 miles (5,586 km). Mechanically it remains absolutely loyal to the heritage of Porsche, maintaining the carbon lever and the detachable roof, but its visual identity clearly closes the eye in Italy.

This is exactly what divides the community of car friends. On the one hand, fanatics of authenticity argue that such a monument is not allowed to bring Italian intervention. On the other hand, the collectors who view supercars as an investment and art objects think that this unique spec makes the car particularly special.

The appointment at the Mecum auction

With Carrera GT prices in the second-hand market ranging between 2 and 3.5 million euros, this experiment is being prepared to be judged in practice.

The German supercar with Ferrari's color will come out on the hammer from Mecum house during Monterey Car Week. There, the final price of the auction will show whether the personal «touch» a collector adds value or whether factory authenticity remains the only undisputed king.
