Who submitted binding financial offers

Two binding bids were submitted to the project «Railway Connection of the 6th Pier Port of Thessaloniki and Construction of Suburban Western Thessaloniki», initial budget of EUR 53.4 million more VAT.

AKTOR – METKA, the TERNA and the AKTOR – METKA consortium submitted binding financial offers.

The project is distinguished in two main sections. The first It concerns the development of the network of the Western Suburban Railway of Thessaloniki, with the construction and operational upgrading of seven railway stations/stations.

Suburban

For passengers, the Western Suburb means new, accessible stations and stops, with docks, shaped access for pedestrians and disabled persons, as well as parking spaces in the stations, so that access to the network is easier for those moving from and to western Thessaloniki.

The second section concerns the railway connection of the 6th Pier of the Port Authority of Thessaloniki to the existing rail network, via a new railway line.

This intervention strengthens the connection of the port to the national and international rail network, upgrading the role of Thessaloniki in freight transport and interconnection corridors with the Balkans and Southeast Europe.

The project also includes the technical interventions required on the existing electrified railway line, such as redevelopment of lines where necessary, hydraulic works, drainage and sewerage projects, as well as the necessary electromechanical installations and railway systems for the operation of new stations and connection.

The Competition Dialogue process qualified the development of a form network «O», with two eastern branches, Sindus and Anchialos – Diapathos, and a single branch to Thessaloniki Railway Station, serving overall seven stops: Sindos, Anchialos, Diatons, Cordelis, Heptanissos, Menemenis and New Railway Station of Thessaloniki.

This new arrangement allows the connection of the suburban network with Metro Thessaloniki, creating an integrated and connected urban transport system for Thessaloniki.

At the same time, the connection of the 6th Pier strengthens the strategic role of the port of Thessaloniki and improves the country's international freight links.

After signing the contract, the construction of Western Suburban Thessaloniki planned to be completed within 18 months, while the railway connection of the 6th Projector of the PPA has a period of 36 months.

Of particular importance is that the project predicts segmental traditions in suburban stations, allowing the gradual operation of parts of the network and the gradual performance to citizens as construction progresses.
