To strengthen transparency in the market and provide more tools for citizens to deal with accuracy, the focus was on Kyriakos Mitsotakis, presenting the new digital application «posokanei».

The Prime Minister described the platform as another essential step in the fight for retention of cost of living, stressing that consumers are now gaining the potential compare directly product prices both between the big chains supermarket the country as well as with corresponding prices on European markets.

«The Greek consumer acquires another weapon in the fight against accuracy and accuracy increased cost of living», he said features, adding that comparison of prices of Greece and abroad in real time creates new market data, particularly for multinational companies.

As he stressed, access to comparable price elements strengthens competition and makes it more difficult to maintain unjustified differences against Greek consumers. «High prices in Greece With regard to other European Union markets, they can no longer be easily tolerated.», note.

The platform gathers daily data from the largest retail chains, covering in the first phase around 10,000 productsAt the same time, it enables the monitoring of historical prices, the creation of lists of purchases and the calculation of total costs per store, while also proposing cheaper product options.

The app is available both through the posokanei.gov.gr website and on Android and iOS mobile devices.

In closing, Kyriakos Mitsotakis reiterated that Management of accuracy remains a central government priority, pointing out that the battle will be won «with real solutions, measurable results rather than easy promises».

The Prime Minister's full statement

«First of all, warm congratulations to the two co-responsible Ministries, but also to the Independent Authority for Market and Consumer Protection, but also to our dynamic startup company, who, in cooperation, developed a truly excellent and very useful application and from today the Greek consumer acquires another one. «gun» combat against accuracy and increased cost of life.

He will now literally know how much each product does in real time, he will be able to compose his own basket, compare prices, not only within Greece but also with corresponding products abroad, so that he can easily choose what and where he has an interest in doing his purchases.

I think it is an important initiative, which strengthens competition, while also mobilising consumer awareness, which is always a demand in our country. It is not a panacea, but, as you said, when every euro counts - and we know that today the Greek citizen is having a hard time and pressure - when every euro counts, transparency is not a luxury, as you said, it is a right.

It is precisely this transparency that promotes this tool, which in the first place has incorporated more than 10,000 products and we obviously do not stop here, as products and tomorrow services will continue to enrich implementation over time.

I would like to stress that we are now one of the few European countries that has a state platform of this scale, which will enable the Greek consumer at any time to compare many different products.

And it is an additional step that proves that the government is actually using technology and the digital state for the benefit of society and the citizen in the end, interfering with the most crucial, the most thorny issue that every Greek household employs today, which is nothing but the problem of accuracy.

I will encourage citizens to download the app - as the Minister said, it is an application which, unlike e-katanaloti, whose essentially very sophisticated form is PosoKanei, is primarily designed for the mobile phone -, experiment with it, see its real power and make the most of it.

I think it is very important that we now have, Minister, a comparison, in real time, of prices of Greece and abroad. This concerns multinational companies in particular.

And I would once again like to send a message that unjustified prices, high prices in Greece in relation to European Union markets cannot be easily tolerated unless they are clearly explained.

Consequently, this tool is also a «gun» in the hands of the Authority itself. But I believe that both supermarkets and competition will realise that once there is greater transparency, they have a greater incentive to strengthen competition even more, because now the citizen, their consumer, will know that he can possibly find the same product somewhere else cheaper.

I should also like to express my pleasure at the fact that this application has been developed by a dynamic Greek startup company based in Ptolemaida, Western Macedonia. Which proves that the Greek Government gives opportunities to newly born Greek companies to develop products that are extremely dynamic and innovative and -why not? - with the good of these products you can also promote abroad.

Finally, to reiterate that the battle fought by the Ministry and the Independent Authority for Market Control and Consumer Protection is a constant battle. As the Minister said, we have developed a number of initiatives to address the acute problem of imported accuracy.
