Lately I've heard a phrase more and more often. I hear it at the cafe, the elevator, the supermarket line, from quiet people who wouldn't kill a cockroach a few years ago. «He did well. It's too bad.».

The events with the burglar - rescuer in Syros are just a reason many expected.

Why his motto «Good for the landlord.» didn't start with the paramedic who arrived at the house with a mask and gloves. It was ready long ago. It had been written slowly, within years, by every burglar left unanswered, every lawsuit left in a drawer, every time a judge released a burglar, every time the citizen realized that the law runs faster to tax him than to protect him.

Here's what disorder does. He does not give birth to democrats, liberals or anarchists. He gives birth to people thirsty for a hard hand.

It's the big misunderstanding of romantic bubbles. They think that when order collapses, people become freer. Lies. When order collapses, people get more scared. And the frightened man does not seek freedom. He's asking for a guard. He doesn't care if the guard respects Article 22 of the Criminal Code. He cares about sleeping in peace.

This is where the liberal ought to say something unpleasant to both sides.

To the progressives who shake the finger, he must say, security is not the last job of the state, it is the first. A state that cannot guarantee that you will return home alive has not earned the right to teach you tolerance. Insecurity is not feeling, it is reality, and reality does not vote left or right, it votes for whoever promises to stop it.

To his followers «First shoot and then ask»But he must say the worst. That what you're asking is not order. It's the preamble to the next mischief, with another garment.

This is the chain. The democracy that does not guard gives birth to the citizen who is armed. The citizen who is armed and not enough gives birth to thirst for master. And the master, when he comes, won't ask you where you called him. He'll shoot first, just like you asked him to. It's just that at some point, the back that leaves at seventy meters will be yours.

The upcoming new order will not come out of nowhere. She's coming because we asked for her from the couch, clapping.

We've seen it before. It always starts with applause.

1)School for the Middle Greek

As a comment on what you write about the level of voters (I agree with everything) I would like to adapt to Greece a joke by the great American comedian George Carlin:
«Bring to mind the image of the average Greek. Well, half the Greeks are worse than him!».

2) «Happy people»

Dear Mr. Stupa,

I read your article with interest «Happy people» and I would like to give a different view to the reader's letter (23/726).

I agree with the introductory remark that the debate in Germany is not primarily determined by ideological issues but by social and economic concerns. I also agree that the country is facing serious challenges, such as high energy costs, increasing competition from China and administrative bureaucracy.

However, I disagree with the view that «left» and «green» It is forces that prevent necessary reforms. Reforms promoted by the conservative camp often constitute a restriction on the social state and the European model of the social market economy. At the same time, they emphasize traditional sectors, rather than strengthen decisive technologies of the future, resulting in Germany losing competitive advantages it had developed, such as renewable energy sources. It is also difficult to explain why billions of euros can be directed to the pension system, while the cost of supporting students is considered excessive. This is also a matter of intergenerational justice.

As far as immigration is concerned, it is true that many refugees are not working yet. But I think this is more due to the institutional context than to them. Restrictions on access to the labour market and extremely slow and strict procedures for recognition of foreign qualifications often prevent people who could work and contribute directly.

On the issue of crime, the public image does not always identify with reality. Crimes committed by immigrants or persons with immigration backgrounds often remain for longer in public dialogue, while corresponding incidents with perpetrators of German or far-right origins are forgotten much faster. In addition, crime is more associated with social and economic factors than with ethnicity.

In my opinion, the rise of AfD is mainly due to the disappointment of citizens from traditional parties. Many citizens face real economic and social insecurities and AfD offers an easy explanation, rendering almost everything to immigration. However, several of the party's proposals would hardly benefit low and medium incomes.

Spain's experience shows a different approach. The integration of migrants into the labour market has been more effective, while the minimum wage has increased significantly in recent years and employment has been at the highest levels in recent decades.

I believe that the answer is not to weaken the social state but to strengthen it, along with a fairer taxation of great wealth and inheritance. Strengthening low and medium-sized incomes returns directly to the real economy through consumption and investment in everyday life, contributing more to social cohesion and sustainable development.

With respect,

Alexander Sturgellis
