A spontaneous idea of the direct disposal of the production of a dairy unit evolved into a small local revolution.
THE Peter Bauwens, a 52 year old Belgian breeder, place one machine ice cream seller in the heart of his farm, offering a product made exclusively from the fresh milk of his cows.
Against the big chains: Great World Response
This initiative, implemented in the village of Sint-Lievens-Esse in the Flemish region, aims to offer an alternative to the consumption model controlled by large chains and multinationals.
As the producer himself reports, until earlier many residents of the area were forced to travel long distances to shops such as Ikea or even reach the country's coast to find this kind of soft ice cream.
Local society's response is particularly warm, with neighbors expressing their satisfaction that they can now supply their favorite flavor at home.
The value of «net» and good raw material
The automatic device has been placed in a small wooden residence next to the family business, in the area Vossenhoek, and operates in a fully automated way. Customers choose the taste they desire, pay with cash or card and receive their freshly made ice cream within seconds.
The success of the project was instantaneous, as during the first weekend of operation queues of vehicles around the farm were formed. Bauwens' goal, which counts many years in the industry, was to bring a fresh, local product closer to consumers, strengthening its model «small chain» which limits intermediaries.
