The summer discount period gradually reaches its end, as the official date of expiry of summer discounts 2026.

Consumers who want to benefit from reduced prices still have a small margin before the market returns to normal rates.

When they started and when they stopped

Under the current legislation, regular summer discounts start every year on the second Monday of July. For 2026, the discount season began on July 13th and will end on August 31, 2026, covering a period of about seven weeks in the heart of summer.

During the discounts undertakings are required to clearly indicate the earlier and the new reduced price of the products and the discount rate, where indicated.

Summer discounts: The obligations of undertakings

At the same time, the Thessaloniki Trade Association reminds companies that announcements on reduced prices should fully comply with the current legislative framework. In particular, in each offer or discount it is mandatory to indicate the earlier price of the product, i.e. the lowest price at which this was made available in the 30 days before the start of the discount.
The price reduction may be presented either as a discount rate, or as a specific monetary benefit, or through the quotation of the old and the new price, provided that the earlier price, as provided for in applicable legislation, is always indicated.

For products placed on the market for a shorter period, the reference value shall be the lowest value from the day of disposal, and specific provisions shall apply in the case of successive price reductions.

The Thessaloniki Trade Association calls on professionals to pay particular attention to the proper application of the rules during discounts, pointing out that non-compliance with the provisions laid down may lead to significant administrative penalties and fines.

What consumers should pay attention to
