The middle Position It has long been a cause of complaints about travelers, both for those sitting in the corridor or in the window and for passengers who are cornered in a middle position between two others.
We've all been on flights where we give «combat» for a little space for our elbows or we just feel cornered due to lack of space.
Fortunately, the resolution of «medium position dilemma» has become an increasingly priority for many airlines.
Thus several air carriers, including Wizz Air and Air France in Europe, launch programmes with which passengers can, at an additional charge, secure the next position or even a whole series.
At international level, United is one of the airlines looking at innovations so that future air travel will be more comfortable for passengers in all categories of seats.
In March, according to Euronews, the US company announced that the service «Relax Row» will start in 2027 and allow passengers of the financial position, on certain wider Boeing aircraft, to turn a series of three seats into a sofa where they can sleep.
United also announced plans for a new offer to Economy Plus: a series of seats without a passenger in the middle position, where the venue will be used for a joint table between runway passengers and window.
Although it will initially only be available in one row of seats in the 50 new Airbus A321XLR of United, the company leaves open the possibility of expanding the option without middle position to other aircraft in the future.
«We invest in our entire fleet and give customers choices and value in each cabin», said Andrew Nocella, executive vice president and head commercial director of United.
United follows the steps of some European airlines, such as Lufthansa and Finnair, which already offer an empty mid-seat to business class passengers.
