This is exactly what it is trying to prove an impressive original vehicle presented in the US and has already caused intense discussions around the future of electric drive.
The vehicle weighing 500 kg, is called Luminetta and was created as part of a university research program. His philosophy is simple but at the same time revolutionary. Here. generates daily enough energy from the sun to cover the owner's movements without requiring frequent connection to a charger.
Over 1,700 photovoltaic cells
This particular electric has more than 1,700 photovoltaic cells embedded in its body, essentially converting any available surface in small «solar power station».
His creators argue that the energy the vehicle can collect from the sun corresponds to about 50 km of autonomy daily, i.e. more than the average km the average driver travels daily. In other words, in specific circumstances it can produce more energy than it consumes.
The secret lies in the weight
Its extremely low weight also plays a defining role. Luminetta weighs just 550 kg, almost half of a modern small electric car produced. This means that it takes much less energy to move, allowing photovoltaics to have a real impact on everyday use.
Is this the future?
Obviously we are not talking about a model that will directly replace today's electric cars. This is a research prototype that explores new technologies and solutions to reduce dependence on chargers. However, it clearly shows which direction the car industry is starting to move. That is to lighter vehicles, greater energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources.
And if these technologies go into production at some point, then perhaps the image of an electric «charging itself» not so far from reality.
