For withdrawal the provision appears to be on the way repealing cash payments via courier, following the reactions caused by the very first hours of the public consultation of the National Economy and Finance Ministry bill.

The provision for cash and cash payments

The regulation at issue, according to the News, is not expected to be included in the final text of the bill to be tabled to the House.

On the basis of the provision, any purchase delivered through a courier company and paid on delivery using the method of payment should be paid exclusively by electronic means, regardless of the amount of the transaction.

In other words, the cash payment would still exist, but its redemption could no longer be done with cash.

The reactions

The forecast caused strong market reactions as it was considered to create different treatment between physical and electronic stores.

A EUR 300 transaction, for example, can now be paid normally by cash at a natural store, while with the new regulation the same market, since the product was delivered to the consumer door via courier, would have to be paid electronically.

Objections have also been raised about the practical difficulties of applying the measure, but also about the impact on consumers who still choose to make payments because they do not have or wish to use a card and other electronic means of payment.

Reactions appear to have functioned catalytically, resulting in the provision now heading for withdrawal before the bill was deposited in the House.
