What is a Fire Card
A key role in these obligations is the Fuel Control Card, a document certifying that emissions of a car are within the permissible limits set by the manufacturer and legislation.
Its possession is mandatory and non-compliance can bring fines up to EUR 350.
Changes in the extradition procedure
Based on recent regulations by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the issue of the Fuel Control Card is now limited to specific operators, with the aim of improving the reliability of measurements.
The publication can now be carried out exclusively by public and private KTEOs, as well as by specially authorized workshops that meet specific technical and licensing requirements, such as certified personnel and appropriately calibrated equipment.
Validity and mandatoryity
The Capsule Control Card is mandatory for all vehicles after their first year of circulation and requires annual renewal.
Cards issued under the previous regime shall remain valid until their expiry date, without requiring any additional action.
Fines and penalties
Fines shall vary according to the infringement:
- 30€ when the card exists but is not in the vehicle
- 50€ when expired or not issued, but the vehicle is within permissible pollutant limits
- up to 350€ where pollutant emissions exceed the permissible limits, with a possible removal of a driving licence for a specific period of time
Cost and procedure
The card is issued in a short time, about 10 minutes, at a cost ranging from 10 to 12 euros.
In cases where the vehicle passes technical control (KEO), the process is incorporated into the control, without requiring separate action from the owner.
