Open Manufacturers Register – What changes for drivers

Radical changes in the process of issuing, ordering and delivering license plates promote Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. By provisions put into public electronic consultation (under a Ministry of Development bill), the old bureaucratic procedures of the Transport Directorates are abolished and a purely digital, fast and transparent system is introduced.

The public consultation will last until 16 September 2026 (time 09:00).

What changes with the new automated digital system

The new information system, managed by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, will cover the entire life cycle of signs:

  • Full automation: The application, order, construction, management, administration, replacement, receipt, payment, cost clearance and supervision shall be digitised.
  • Vehicle categories: It concerns private passenger use (I.E.), buses (I.E. and D.E.), trucks (I.E.) and motorcycles, with the possibility of subjecting other categories (excluding strict exceptions to OK).
  • Select traffic number: Special parabola are established in favour of the Greek State for those who wish to choose a combination of numbers. This revenue will go directly to the state budget (in distinct ALE).
  • Transparent pricing: The manufacturing parabola will include the manufacturer's default (and binding) cost, as well as the platform's operating costs, with the clearing done automatically.
