Let's remember how it all started... The Togg, the partnership of the major Turkish groups Anadolu Group, Zorlu Holding, BMC, Turkcell and TOBB, was born in 2018 with an explicit political mandate: to put Turkey on the electric car industry map. The factory in Gemlik, Vursa opened in 2020, production began in October 2022, and as early as 2023 SUV T10X was circulating on the Turkish streets.

On the domestic market, the numbers were impressive. Almost 19,583 units in the first year, over 30,000 in 2024, and a total of about 70,000 T10X in circulation to date. In early 2026, the model held nearly 30% of the Turkish electric market, with 2,300 units sold only in January. The image in the country of origin was that of a success — capitalization of national feeling, state support, favourable taxation, and a market that wanted to embrace its own brand.

The technology on paper is good.
Objectively, the two models of Togg — SUV T10X and sedan T10F presented at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich — have remarkable performance. Both carry five stars Euro NCAP, battery 88.5 kWh, engine 160 kW (210 horsepower) on the rear axle, maximum charge power 180 kW and charging capacity from 20% to 80% in 28 minutes. T10F's WLTP autonomy reaches 623 km in the top edition, while T10X claims up to 523 km. For those who want more power, there is 4More with a double engine at 320 kW and 435 horsepower. The interior is dominated by a 29-inch screen, while Togg does not want to just sell a car — wants to sell a digital mobility ecosystem through the Trumore platform.

Prices strategically aggressive: the original Long Range V2 starts at 41,200 euros, and since the beginning of 2026 Standard Range versions are available from 34,295 euros — below Volkswagen ID.4 (from 40,300€), Tesla Model Y (from 45,000€) and Skoda Enyaq (from 44,400€). One real advantage is also that, as a Turkish manufacturer within the EU-Turkey Customs Union, its models are not burdened by the countervailing duties that hit Chinese competitors.

Reality in Europe is another storyau
In September 2025 Togg took the big step: entry into the German market, exclusively digitally through application, without a network of representatives. In October the first traditions took place in Stuttgart, with ceremony and photographs for Turkish media. The result? The first month of sales: 6 classifications. In November: 22. By the end of December: total 53 units — in a country that moves hundreds of thousands of cars a year and has the largest Turkish community abroad worldwide, with over three million people.

This was precisely the logic of Germany's choice: the expectation that the Turkish diaspora would embrace emotionally «Hers.» Car. The assessment proved wrong. As a typical Turkish analyst wrote, buying a car is a rational case, not an act of national loyalty. The Turkish of Germany thinks reliability, network service, resale value — Just like any other buyer.

This highlights the structural weaknesses. Togg does not have a fast charging network — analogue of Tesla Supercharger or Ionity. The exclusive digital market via app sounds modern, but the European buyer wants to see, drive and look closely at a car before spending 40,000 euros. And above all, a brand without history, without presence, without a community of owners in the country, asks for trust without even having deposited its credentials.

What about Greece?
The question makes sense because in the past there have been contacts between Greek business groups with the Turkish side for possible introduction of Togg into the Greek market. But the answer is written itself.

The Greek electric car market is rapidly developing — 30.4% increase in 2025, with the share of BEV reaching 6.2% of total classifications, while the first figures in 2026 show a continuation of trend. But this development takes place in an environment already filled with powerful players.

The Commission's proposal is based on the principle of subsidiarity. Volkswagen ID.4 remains a reference point in the compact electric SUV, the Renault It dominates smaller sizes with 5 E-Tech, while the Peugeot, the Opel and Skoda offer complete options with established service networks and resale value documented. From a Chinese point of view, MG and BYD have already set a firm foot on the Greek market, combining competitive prices, decent quality and — Something critical — organised after-sales networks. Cherry takes her first steps, and new Chinese players such as Jaecoo also announced presence in Greece.

In this landscape, what exactly would Togg offer? Better price than Europeans — It is also important that the European Parliament should be given the right to vote in favour. BYD and MG They're already doing better. Greater autonomy — It is also important that the European Parliament should be given the right to vote in favour. BYD Seal, MG S5 EV and other models move to the same or better levels. Reliability and network — unknown, no history in the country. And of course, there is no emotional bond that would function as «attraction» — On the contrary, in a Greek market, Turkish origin can operate in suspensive terms for an important segment of buyers.

A representative who would carry a brand with 53 classifications on the largest European market would at the same time take a risk difficult to justify business — especially when the alternative is to become a representative of a Chinese brand that already sells thousands of units across Europe.

The «National» does not sell outside the border
Togg's story is in many respects teaching. Turkey has achieved what few countries have dared in modern times: to build a domestic car industry from scratch. Models are decent, technical performance remarkable, pricing strategy. But success inside was based on conditions that are not repeated elsewhere: state protection, national pride as a market lever, and a favourable tax framework.

The European market — and Greek even more — does not move from these parameters. It moves out of trust, from proven credibility, from a support network, from the guarantee that if something goes wrong you won't be alone. In this game, Togg has yet to prove anything but Turkey.

At present, Erdogan's great national project has conquered Turkey — And she stumbles as soon as she comes out of her border. Greece doesn't need this car. He already has much better choices.
