The new gov.gr Messenger gathers in the Citizen's Deposit Box the messages of all public bodies and, according to the ministry, limits the SMS sent by the State to the citizens.

A new channel of communication between the public and the citizens is now in operation. The «gov.gr Messenger» enables all public bodies to send updates, notifications and messages directly through gov.gr, instead of SMS or email. To date, as the Ministry of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence reports, the citizen received a limited number of messages for specific services, such as the performance of the Personal Number or the information campaigns of the ministries.

This move also has a very practical dimension, which the announcement distinguishes. According to the ministry, direct communication via gov.gr Messenger significantly limits the sending of SMS and emails containing links to websites with malicious software. This is exactly the kind of message that phishing frauds are also based on, as the recipient hardly distinguishes a genuine state SMS from a fake. At the same time, says the ministry, drastically reduces the cost of sending SMS on the part of the State, without giving specific figures.

The tool itself is within «Citizen Box», in the subcategory «My messages»Where they gather what the operators send. The same function incorporates the upgraded version of gov.gr Wallet, so that the user can see his messages from the digital wallet, taking push notification for each new message. In the same wallet entered a few weeks ago and the Greek passport for identification within the country.

At the same time, the way the gov.gr itself works changes. Citizens are now identified once with taxisnet codes, without having to re-register their credentials at every step, and gain access to personalized capabilities such as «Citizen Box», the «My services» and «My bodies», as well as the 2,268 services of the Single Digital Portal. The Ministry notes, however, that this possibility is currently available for a specific number of services, which will gradually increase. Examples are the most popular, such as the responsible statement, authorization, digital document certificate, private agreement and municipal and registry certificates.

In the new environment the user can also store in his profile the services he uses most frequently to find them from the home page, and the history of his connections is available. An evaluation form is added after each service is completed, with the ministry saying that the answers will be systematically used to improve the services provided.

Both interventions are part of the wider work of the CRM of the State, which had been announced in June along with gov.gr 2.0. The logic of targeted information to the citizen about his affairs is not new, as he had preceded Politis.gov.gr, monitoring the development of applications to the State. The ministry says that both gov.gr and gov.gr Messenger will gradually be enriched with new services and capabilities, with the aim of messenger establishing itself as the state's basic information and communication mechanism with citizens and businesses.
