Research shows that 7 out of 10 Greeks and 8 out of 10 Cypriots are familiar with DIY activities, which shows that this practice It is now a widespread choice in households, which is the main objective of cost restraint..
Citizens who dare to manage micro-projects themselves are not necessarily professionals or specialist craftsmen. According to Leroy Merlin's survey, for the year 2025, 71% of Greeks declare capable DIY activities – with emphasis paint, micro-repairs and furniture assembly. Similarly, in Cyprus the rate reaches 80%.
Who does the «meremetia»

In Greece, younger ages lead the trend, with 77% of 18–24 and 75% of 25–34 declare familiarity with DIY, confirming that the new generation actively adopts philosophy «Do it yourself». In Cyprus, the 35–54 age group remains the most active, reflecting the connection of DIY with the everyday life of productive age.
Geographical characteristics
As regards the geographical dimension of the phenomenon, Leroy Merlin's research shows that DIY now exceeds local boundaries and develops into daily practice for consumers across the country, passing from choice to habit.
Unlike previous years, where sharp variations were recorded between regions, in 2025 familiarity appears more uniformly
distributed, highlighting a wide and balanced presence throughout Greece.
The higher rates are found in the Aegean Islands and Crete (77%), Northern Greece (73%) and Attica (70%) follow. In Central Greece, the rate is set at 67%, confirming that DIY is a widespread practice in every geographical unit.
The market «Do It Yourself»
The continued demand for products and services by consumers is fuelling the turnover of companies in the DIY sector. Note that few major players are active in the market, but it is fragmented into small and very small businesses active in products and services.
The two strong market players are the French subsidiary Leroy Merlin in Greece and Cyprus and Praktiker Hellas which has recently been controlled by Dedeman, who is a member of the Paval Holding Group.
