After the final decision by Ryanair to terminate its base in Thessaloniki, for the winter period of 2026, the Fraport Greece issued its own communication:

«Fraport Greece was informed today of Ryanair's final decision to discontinue part of its winter flight project at Thessaloniki Airport «Macedonia» for next year.

In addition to the fact that the relevant announcements took place in Athens rather than in Thessaloniki, which is primarily affected by these decisions, it is obvious that any objections to air navigation charges and airport development fees established by the Greek State are completely unfounded and entirely pretentious.

We understand that the reasons that led Ryanair to limit its flight work during the winter season at Thessaloniki Airport «Macedonia» are exclusively linked to the company's commercial design, business model and profitability.

For our part, we respect Ryanair's business decisions, which remains one of our major partners, as well as the remaining 40 airlines currently operating at Thessaloniki Airport, linking the city and the wider region of Macedonia with more than 33 countries and 93 destinations.

As Fraport Greece, we have invested more than 100 million euros to expand and upgrade the infrastructure and facilities of Thessaloniki Airport, which has already recorded a record of passenger traffic, with a total increase of 40%, in the nine years under our management.

We remain firmly committed to our goal: Thessaloniki Airport "Macedonia" to constantly have the modern infrastructure and operational readiness needed to effectively serve the increasing passenger flows of the continuous development of Thessaloniki and the wider region as an international destination».
