THE EPT announced the recall of a batch of frozen swordfish, following checks showing that the product contains mercury at levels above the permitted limit and was declared unsafe.
The service has already requested that this lot be withdrawn from the market and calls on consumers not to consume it.

The Communication of the ETUC:
«The E.F.E.T. and in particular the Regional Directorate of Epirus, when carrying out checks under the "Official Control for Monitoring Food Safety Chemical Parameters- Control for the determination of metals in food" programme 2026, took samples of frozen product with the data: FETA SHRINK 1019, K.A. Atlantic Ocean FAO 34 Pacific Ocean FAO 87, with a date of freezing 05-02-2025, a date of consumption 05-02-2027 and Lot No 11126.
The product was packaged by G.SIDERIS S.A. (approval code GR 02-KN-07), on behalf of FOUR FISH, Petros Rally 8, Athens, from which it was traded to Panos NIKOLAIDIS S.A., VIPE Ioannina, Ioannina, in order to be marketed and sampled.
Following laboratory analyses from the First Department of the Chemical Service of Epirus and Western Macedonia, the General Chemistry of the State, the A.A.D.E., the sample received was classified NOT NORMAL – UN SAFE because it was found to contain a quantity of mercury at a concentration above the maximum allowed limit.
The E.F.E.T. required the immediate withdrawal of the whole batch of the product concerned and the relevant checks are already under way.
