Will Goody’s and Everest change hands again? Developments around the next day of Evergood, the largest Greek focus group, are expected even within the month. This is the corporate umbrella under which Goody’s, Everest, Flocafé and La Pasteria are currently under.
Discussions between a subsidiary of the Fairfax Group of Mr Prem Wacha and Vivartia, controlled by the CVC, on the possible acquisition of Evergood continue. Contacts, which began after Easter, have moved on, as the due diligence has been completed and the next step is expected to be the submission of a specific proposal.
On the market, it is said that the valuation of Evergood is estimated at EUR 300 million, without this being an agreed price or a binding offer at these levels. However, since the two sides reach an agreement near this valuation, the transaction will be included in the biggest deals of the year and will mark another change of ownership for two of the most historic signs of the Greek focus.
A possible deal will bring one step closer to the divestment of CVC by Vivartia, the largest Greek food group, which it acquired in 2021. The fund then paid EUR 175 million for 100% of the shares and undertook around 425m euros of loan obligations, raising the total value of the transaction to close to 600m euros.
After a period of restructuring and development of individual activities, the CVC has now passed into the reverse process. Dodoni and Barba Stathis have already changed hands and Delta and Greek Zymi are now at the heart of the processes. The main person on this route is Alex Fotakidis, partner of CVC and the person associated with the investment presence of the fund in Greece.
Restart
Evergood, however, is quite different from the focus group received by CVC. In recent years the network has been restructured, the franchise and the closed markets have been strengthened, key signals have been renewed and investments have been accelerated, and recently Jackaroo has been added to its portfolio.
The results of this effort are also reflected in the numbers. In 2025 consolidated sales for the first time exceeded 300m euros, from 265m euros in 2024, while together with franchise stores the system's sales reached 375m euros. Net profits were set at 13.57m euros, the network numbered 596 points in Greece and abroad at the end of the year, while investment outflows were 20.74m euros.
The return to growth was accompanied by the return to acquisitions. Evergood acquired 60% of Red Meat, the company behind Jackaroo, against a total direct and indirect price of 10m euros, adding one of the fastest growing new concepts of the domestic market to its portfolio. Within 2025 Jackaroo acquired seven stores, with five opening within the year.
For Fairfax, on the other hand, focus is not an unknown field. Mr Wacha's group already has an extensive presence in the industry through the Canadian Recipe Unlimited, with more than 1,100 restaurants, while at the end of 2025 it further expanded its imprint with the acquisition of British MW Eat.
However, Evergood's value is not only reflected in its current sizes. Under today's corporate umbrella two of the largest business stories of the Greek organized restaurant, which were born in different cities and seasons and developed for decades separately and competitively.
Chakalov
The oldest of the two starts in 1965 at Tsakalov Street in Kolonaki, where G. Maltezopoulos, S. Writes and S. Nikolakakis open the first Everest. The store evolves into one of the most typical night clubs in Athens, open 24 hours and is identified with the hot sandwich and famous «slippers».
In its flourishing years it sells about 2,500 sandwiches daily! In the sphere of mythology even the fact that it has no doors, as the constant movement of customers makes them practically unnecessary.
In 1983 Everest passes to Mr. Laurentius Freris, the businessman who turns the historic store into one of the largest groups of organized restaurants in the country. A key figure on this route is Mr Andreas Tsukalis, who is associated with the development of Everest on Frere, remains through successive property changes and is to this day at the wheel of Evergood.
Since the early 1990s the franchise has accelerated the nationwide development of Everest, while Mr. Freris gradually widens the group's footprint, beyond snack, with La Pasteria in casual dining and later with Olympic Catering. In 1999 Everest entered the Athens Stock Exchange Parallel Market.
The company
The second story has begun ten years after Everest, in Thessaloniki. At the heart of the Goody’s project are Giannis Dionysiadis, Achilles Folias and Nikos Pappas, along with the wider initial team of Xenophon Dionysiadis, Dimitris Parissi, Tasos Laskaridis, Fotis Korkovelos and the brothers Mark and Vangelis Margaritis.
Mr. Christos Folias, brother of Achilles, who later follows a business and political route reaching ministerial office. In fact he is referred to as the godfather of the Goody’s.
In 1975 the first Goody’s in Thessaloniki, Tsimiski and Kuscura are opened. Two years later, in the fourth store, the company turns to franchising, becoming its large growth engine. In 1981 he descends to Athens with a store in Solonos and the expansion accelerates.
Around restaurants a wider business ecosystem is gradually created. In 1990 Hellenic Catering is acquired, offering a productive and power base, while following Flocafé, opening for the group the coffee market. In 1994 Goody’s was introduced to the Athens Stock Exchange, less than two decades after the first Thessaloniki stores.
Sovereignty
In the late 1990s and early 2000s Goody’s is at its peak. The network exceeds 200 points, the company grows in Cyprus and Bulgaria and even attempts the big bet in Portugal, with shops in Porto and Lisbon.
Vivartia
