BYD is constantly expanding its activity to the European continent, and is now considering where to build its next factory, while three countries with a strong industry appear to be dominant.
According to its own statements Stella Li, its Executive Vice-President BYD Company Limited at the Paris Motor Show, energy costs will be a key criterion for selecting the Chinese firm's next factory plant on European soil.
The final decision is expected to be taken by the end of 2026, and according to rumours, The main priority is France, Spain and Italy., which brings the least chance.

France's competitiveness in the energy sector is one of the main arguments in favour of installing a production plant in the country. Car manufacturing requires large quantities of energy, especially when it includes highly energy-intensive industrial processes and the production of components for electric vehicles.

Another interesting parameter concerns how this investment could be implemented. Chinese manufacturers are famous for the speed at which they adapt to market needs, and in this case BYD would prefer to buy out existing plants and turn them into car plants, instead of building new installations from scratch.
This solution would limit the time needed to start production, already using existing infrastructure. Among the circulating scenarios A possible cooperation with a large European manufacturer is included. However, this rumor has not been confirmed.

The plan for the second plant is part of a wider industrial programme, which provides for a total of three car plants and a specialized battery plant in Europe. BYD also seeks to employ more than 40,000 workers in Europe by 2030, strengthening its presence across the supply chain.
