For the academic year 2026, the final amount allocated for the award of the student housing allowance will be determined on the basis of the number of applications to be submitted and the final beneficiaries.

As the Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, Sophia Zachrakis said:

«Supporting student care is for us a firm priority and practical proof that we stand next to families investing in the future of their children. At a time when housing pressure is high, Student Housing is not just an economic aid. It is a substantial help so that every student and student can devote themselves to their studies with greater security and fewer obstacles. That is why we increased its funding by 115% compared to 2019, continuously expanding the number of beneficiaries.

At the same time, we move on to permanent solutions that change the map of the student roof in Greece: we renovate and modernize existing student dormitories, make use of the University's property and implement the largest program of the creation of new student homes that the country has ever known, amounting to 735.7m euros, with approximately 8,600 new modern beds throughout Greece.

I call on all students and all students who are beneficiaries not to let the opportunity go to waste and submit their application in time. We want them to know that the State is next to them every step of their academic route, supporting their efforts, dreams and ambitions.»

Undersecretary of State for Higher Education, Prof. Nikos Papaioannou, said: «Support for students/three and their families is a constant priority of the Government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

For the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, the substantial reduction in the economic burden of studies away from the place of residence is a constant objective and key axis of our policy on student care. .

From 2019 until today we moved on to successive increases in the student housing allowance. In particular, from the academic year 2021-2022 the allowance was increased from 1,000 euros to 1,500 euros and 2,000 euros in the case of accommodation, while from the academic year 2023-2024, and for all regional S.E.I. (except Attica and Thessaloniki), it was set at 2,000 euros and 2,500 euros in the case of accommodation.

This policy is also reflected in the overall funding of the programme, which from around EUR 42 million in 2019 is currently EUR 90 million.

We call on all beneficiaries who have not yet submitted their request to complete the procedure in time to make use of this important aid.

Consistency and plan continue to strengthen student care and create better conditions for young people who choose to study away from their place of residence».
