There are traffic accidents that when you see the photos, you take for granted that there can be no survivors. Such an incident occurred in Poland, starring one Toyota C-HR, which literally happened «sandwich» between two heavy trucks.
The images from the accident site are shocking. The Japanese SUV was found under the rear wheels of a truck and accepted enormous compression forces, resulting in its body being deformed to the extent that the model is hardly recognized.
Despite the fierceness of the conflict, the most striking element is that the two passengers managed to survive.
Rescuers didn't believe in their eyes.
The accident occurred on the DK11 road, near the Garbatka region of Poland. According to the first information, Toyota C-HR was stopped and was behind a truck. A second truck that followed from behind, never braked, and pushed with incredible force the SUV under the wheels of the front.
Firefighters and rescuers had to intervene immediately to free passengers from the deformed vehicle.
Although injured and transported to the hospital, the first reports mention injuries that did not threaten their lives, which was almost a miracle, considering the condition in which the car was found. Local authorities are investigating the exact causes of the incident.
When passive security makes a difference
The incident is yet another reminder of the importance of modern passive security standards. Despite the fact that Toyota C-HR was badly damaged, the cabin's safety cage seems to have maintained enough vital space for passengers, effectively saving their lives.
And maybe the car was completely destroyed, but the fact that passengers came out of such an accident is perhaps the most powerful evidence of how much modern vehicle protection systems have evolved.
