Energy saving expert calculates the operating cost of an air conditioner for 10 hours a day and explains what factors increase consumption.
With the high temperatures in summer to make everyday life increasingly difficult, air conditioner is for many a necessary solution to the heat. However, one of the key questions that households are concerned about is how much the electricity bill is burdened by its long-term use.

Up to EUR 1,95 per day for 10 hours of operation
As he explains, an ordinary air conditioner split consumes about 1 to 1.3 kilowatts per hour. If it remains in operation for about ten hours a day, total consumption may reach 13 kilowatt hours.
With an average electricity price of EUR 0,15 per kilowatt hour, the daily cost is estimated at EUR 1.95.

Factors that increase consumption
Real consumption, however, depends on several factors.
The higher the external temperature, the more the device is strained to keep the interior of the house cool. Thus, an air conditioner that works when outside prevails 40 degrees Celsius consumes more than when the temperature is 30 degrees.
At the same time, the temperature we choose is important. According to data from Contigo Energía, each degree (lower) increases electricity consumption by about 8%.
What temperature is considered ideal
Experts recommend that the air conditioner temperature be adjusted between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius, as it provides a balance between comfort and energy saving.
The energy class of the device is equally important. The most modern and efficient models can significantly reduce consumption, reducing operating costs during the hottest months.
Thus, although the use of the air conditioner is almost necessary in heat periods, the correct regulation and energy efficiency of the device can make a significant difference in the current account.
