Addressing the traffic problem in the Attica basin is now high on the agenda of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, with a number of interventions routed to key points of the road network. Among the most important works he stands out upgrading the node of Metamorphosis on the Attic Road, an intervention which aspires to give a meaningful solution to one of the most burdensome points of the network, particularly during peak hours.

The solution promoted is based on a relatively simple but highly effective change. Instead of the two traffic currents ending up in the same spot, as is the case today, will be separated so that each direction is served by a different exit. In particular, vehicles moving from the airport side will exit about 130 metres below the current point, while the existing exit will be used exclusively by vehicles coming from the direction of Elefsina.
In this way the point where the two traffic flows are currently interacting is substantially eliminated, creating intense congestion that often extends to much of the Attica Road.

This is a work that has repeatedly occupied the news in recent years, with competent bodies reporting that it will be completed within 2026. One of its most important advantages is that no expropriations are required, which significantly reduces the risk of delays and allows for faster implementation.
The intervention mainly concerns changes in road planning and traffic management. Although it will be necessary to move certain networks of general interest, these technical issues are not estimated to be able to substantially influence the timetable. According to design, The most demanding work is expected to take place during August, when traffic in Athens is reduced to limit as much as possible the inconvenience of drivers.
The assessment of the benefits of intervention is of particular interest. The new layout of the node is estimated to significantly increase its capacity, even more than doubled it, while delays in peak hours could be reduced by up to 50%.
