New data on the electricity tariffs for September is generated by PPC, which announced an increased price for the green household invoice, but has made a significant reduction in its fixed invoice offered at 11.5 minutes with a fixed price of 3.5 euros.
More specifically, PPC's move to fixed tariffs is of particular interest, as since September PPC's myHome Online charge has been reduced to EUR 0,115/kWh.
The new price enables consumers who choose a fixed contract to "lock" the kilowatt hour charge at levels lower than both the green invoice and several of the company's other fixed products. The traffic is gaining more weight due to the timing, as it takes place at a time of strong volatility in the wholesale market.
At the same time, the choice of fixed product offers greater predictability as to the cost of supply, limiting the exposure of households to monthly market changes.
Green Invoice
According to the price lists posted for September, the charge for green C1/C1N is EUR 0,14913/kWh, from EUR 0,1384/kWh in August. This is an increase of 7.7%, significantly below the rise of around 21% in the wholesale electricity market.
Development is of particular importance as Augustus was characterised by strong upward pressure on wholesale, which was reinforced by high demand, the conditions prevailing in the wider South-East European market and fluctuations in production costs. Compared to July, wholesale market levels appear to be increased by around 43%.
It is recalled that in August PPC had kept the charge of green C1/G1N unchanged, despite the increase of more than 18% that had preceded wholesale. Thus, for the second consecutive month, the change in the wholesale market does not, in its entirety, pass to the retail price of the product concerned.
At the same time at the levels of August, the other main fixed products of PPC remain charged.
MyHome Enter is available at a fixed charge of EUR 0,145/kWh, while myHome Maxima, which is mainly addressed to households with higher consumption, provides a charge of EUR 0,141/kWh for the first 600 kWh and EUR 0,129/kWh for the consumption of over 600 kWh, with a contract duration of 18 months.
In myHome EnterTwo, the normal charge remains at EUR 0,145/kWh, while in the reduced charge zone it is set at EUR 0,105/kWh.
A different philosophy follows myHome Plan, which provides for a single monthly charge of 60 euros, including commission charges and regulated charges, with clearance every six months.
Student
At 0,115 euros/kWh for the first 150 kWh monthly consumption, the charge of the student program PPC myHome 4Students is set.
The program is accompanied by additional benefits, including zero fixed for the three summer months, as well as commercial offers and coupons of cooperating companies.
The timing is of particular interest, as the beginning of the academic period is traditionally accompanied by increased mobility in the electricity market due to the new student residences.
Dynamic invoices
PPC's portfolio now includes the dynamic pricing products myHome Dynamic and myBusiness Dynamic, which are addressed to households and businesses with a smart meter.
Through these products, consumers are able to transfer part of their consumption to hours when market prices are lower, gaining greater control over their energy costs.
