Tablets, drones, secret customers and tax collectors moving from county to county compose its new operational plan Independent Public Revenue Authority (ADE) This summer. From Crete to Poros, from Athens to Rhodes and from Thessaloniki to the Cyclades, mobile garages carry out surprise checks throughout the country, using the decision that has been in force since 2023 and allowing the GOOs to carry out on-site checks tax controls outside their geographical competence. The aim is to maintain surprise, limit information leaks and prevent any attempt to avoid control.
Without frontiers
The company is already in full development, with ADE intensifying on-the-spot tax controls in areas with increased tourist traffic and in businesses which, based on risk analysis, show an increased likelihood of tax infringements. The first evidence shows that only from July 20 to 26 were 2,252 checks carried out, of which 732 resulted in the detection of infringements, raising the rate of delinquency to a particularly high of 37.42%.
The model of «checks without frontiers» It is now a key tool of tax administration. By the decision of the commander of AADE George Pitsilis, which has been applied every year since 2023, the auditors are no longer limited to the limits of the DOS in which they serve. Thus, steps can be moved from anywhere in the country to a tourist destination where there is a higher risk of tax evasion. In this way AADE attempts to break local acquaintances, enhance surprise and prevent possible information leaks before a check.
